We’re a privately held company. It’s a small business. Sure, we sell our products through retailers across the country, and ship just about anywhere. We’re pretty proud that our salami and cured meats have become so popular. Truth be told, it’s largely been a word-of-mouth thing. A nice prosciutto led to a lardo, which brought a request for some chorizo, and it’s grown from there.
Attending foodie events and food shows over the years has opened doors for Olli Salumeria and enabled us to establish relationships with boutique vendors like Murray’s Cheese and big boys like Whole Foods and Williams-Sonoma. In January we went to the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco, California. They always have a Winter Show and a Summer Show, and the Summer Show is right around the corner. We’re pretty excited.
The Summer Fancy Food Show is North America’s largest specialty food and beverage show, and will be June 30th through July 2nd at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Everyone in the industry that we’ve talked to is really excited that it’s returning to New York City. Hundreds and hundreds of vendors will be sharing over 180,000 different products. There will be coffees, teas, cheeses, spices, condiments, sweets, meats and more. There are even folks there with creative packaging, cooking techniques and cooking equipment. If you can use it to make or eat something delicious, you can discover it there.
The halls of the Javits Center will be swarming with people who, like us, are pretty passionate about food. Exhibiting at the show is a good barometer of the quality of your product. When we went to the Winter show we had Berkshire Prosciutto, Wild Boar Salami, and introduced Tartufo and our Pepperoni. They were all a huge hit. So much so, in fact, that for the upcoming show, our Pepperoni has been nominated for a sofi Award. The sofi is somewhat like an Oscar for a food product, and it’s always humbling to get a nod. The Olli Salumeria Pepperoni is one of three nominees in the Outstanding Meat, Pâté or Seafood category.
We’ll be taking some new things up to New York, and obviously the Pepperoni. Perhaps we’ll bring back the Tartufo, or bring some Molisana. We’ve been getting great feedback on our Sweet and Hot Coppas, so they may make the trip. We always bring our full arsenal of salami flavors, so they’ll be there. Olli has been tinkering with some other savory treats, like our new Salamini, three new Organics, and the newest Hot Chorizo.
It’s almost time to start packing our coolers. We hope to see you in New York City!
